The Furniture Market is running a competition to find Britain’s best blanket fort. You could win tickets to top UK attractions or £100 Love2Shop vouchers by sharing your den-building secrets.
Den building, fort building, whatever your family calls it – it’s a rite of passage for any self-respecting toddler and Arthur’s no exception. He loves creating an imaginary world beneath blankets and cushions. I’ll admit my den building skills fade into the background once daddy brings out the big guns but I like to give it a shot. We like to line the dining room chairs up, and use blankets to create our own castle. We can often be found reading by Fireman Sam torchlight inside our magical world of cushions.
I think building dens is about firing their imaginations, it costs little, and means they can experience new worlds when the rain is pouring or your purse is empty – what’s not to love! When daddy gets in den-building mode he creates the most amazing spaces – but then he uses tarpaulin and tent pegs so he has the upper hand!
Top fort building tips
Be led by little imaginations – one day Arthur might want to be under the table, another time only a duvet tent will do!
Never throw away old blankets and cushions – I’ve shoved all mine in a box and drag them out when needed
Get involved – don’t stand back and watch, get down on the floor, create magical tunnels and enjoy the experience too.
